FOXBOROUGH, MA — The New England Patriots’ head coach and quarterback both say “Deflategate” is nothing but hot air. Β The Pats are accused of illegally deflating 11 of 12 footballs they used in their big AFC Championship win Sunday.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady says he has a regular process for getting accustomed to game day footballs. Β He insists he’s never altered any of them.
“I feel like I’ve always played within the rules,” said Brady. Β “I would never do anything to break the rules. Β I believe in fair play.”
“The balls we practice with are as bad as they can be,” said Head Coach Bill Belichick. Β “Wet, sticky, cold, slippery… however bad we can make ’em, I make ’em.”
An NFL team can be fined up to $25,000 for tampering with an approved football.
