CHARLOTTE, NC — A new effort to address race relations with police officers and the communities they serve.  CMPD is teaming up with the North Carolina Barbershop Association and will hold a town hall meeting on Sunday.

The goal is to educate young African Americans on their rights and the appropriate manner with which to conduct themselves if they come into contact with police.  The partner shop was inspired by recent police-involved incidents around the country.

“We believe it’s something we hav to do that needs to be done,” said CMPD Chief Rodney Monroe.  “I applaud my officers for stepping out of their shell.  I appreciate the youth who are willing to take that risk and sit down with an officer and have that conversation.”

The town hall meeting is Sunday at 3pm at the Greenville Recreation Center on Spring Street.
