DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit judge has delayed signing an order to send former Tigers pitcher Evan Reed to trial for sexual assault.
Defense attorney Ben Gonek says 36th District Judge Kenneth King on Wednesday granted his request while Reed asks the Michigan Court of Appeals to overturn a circuit court’s ruling for a trial.
Reed was playing for the Tigers last spring when a 45-year-old woman says she was drugged at a bar before being taken to a Detroit casino hotel on the eve of Opening Day. Reed insists the sex was consensual.
King dismissed the two third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges in August, but Wayne County Circuit Judge Michael Callahan reinstated the case after prosecutors appealed.
Prosecutors say they will file a motion to compel King to send Reed to trial.
