CLOVER, S.C. – This is a story that shouldn’t just make you sad, it should make you mad. A law-abiding, well-loved couple in our community, defend themselves and their business against gun toting robbers, wounding one of them.

Five months later, the couple is shot dead inside their home. Investigators have already confirmed the robbery is connected to the murders. This is a call to action, says their son. And a warning, he says, about a failed justice system.Β

Daniel London says, “(If) my parents wouldn’t have had to be so present at those trials, and that they might still be alive today because they did not have to expose themselves to so much danger and so much openness in the community.”Β

London’s mom and dad Doug and Debbie showed up at court often to make sure the suspects accused of robbing their south Charlotte mattress business in May were held accountable but a judge they feared was too lenient. He says, “My parents were actually urged by the DA’s office to not upset the judge for fear that they wouldn’t take their case seriously or she would become upset and lash out against my parents.”Β

The robbery suspects are 22-year-old Jamell Cureton and his brother 19-year-old Nana Adoma. A third man with alleged high-ranking ties to the Bloods, 21-year-old David Lee Fudge, got probation for the robbery.

The murder suspects are 21-year-old Malcolm Hartley and 19-year-old Briana Johnson. The robbery and murders are connected. All five suspects are now back behind bars. How they are connected remains to be seen.Β

WCCB News @ Ten anchor Morgan Fogarty asked, “Daniel, at this point, are you concerned for your safety?” He replied, “I am concerned for my safety. I am not fearful of these people but I do fear that they will not hesitate to take my life the way that they took my parents life. And of course, I’m referring to the Bloods street gang.”Β

This is just the first report in WCCB Charlotte’s investigation into the Londons’ murders. Friday, South Carolina Speaker Pro Tem Tommy Pope is meeting with Morgan Fogarty to talk about what’s being done, if anything, to choke out these gangs.Β
