Woman Dead After Albemarle Road Crash

 CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating after they say a woman died in a single-car accident saturday morning.

Police say that a Sergeant was driving down Albemarle road just after 7:00 this morning when a vehicle was discovered in the front yard of the 7900 block of Albemarle Road.

The vehicle had run off the road to the right, struck a tree, rotated counterclockwise and came to rest in the grass.

Police say that Shameka Nicole McCormick was the only occupant and was not wearing her seat belt.  Medic responded to the scene and pronounced McCormick deceased from the injuries she sustained in the collision.

It is unknown exactly when the collision occurred and there are no witnesses to the crash.

Officilas say that alcohol use appears to be a contributing cause to the crash.
