Flags Fly at Half Staff in Honor of Dean Smith

CHAPEL HILL, NC — Plans are set for a public memorial to honor the life of iconic former UNC basketball coach Dean Smith.  Flags at state buildings in Charlotte and across North Carolina are flying at half staff in Smith’s honor.

The 83-year-old died peacefully at his home in Chapel Hill on Saturday.  His family will have a private service on Thursday.

The public memorial is Sunday, February 22 in the Smith Center at UNC Chapel Hill.  It begins at 2pm.
