CHARLOTTE, NC — Two sexual assault victims are accusing a Charlotte physician, a man who practiced medicine at several clinics in the area.
Now police are asking any other potential victims to come forward, as we dig deeper into the doctor’s background.
Police say the first victim was sexually assaulted by Dr. Fidelis Edosomwan during an examination at the Americare clinic on Milton Road on January 2.
A second victim reported being assaulted during an exam at the Americare on West Sugar Creek Road on January 14.
“You’ve got somebody that’s entrusted with conducting these type of medical examinations who violated that trust by doing some inappropriate activities,” said CMPD Captain Cecil Brisbon.Β
The CMPD sexual assault unit arrested Edosomwan on January 30, charging him with two counts of second degree sexual offense and three counts of sexual battery. The doctor is out of jail on bond.
Tax records show Edomsomwan as owning a $3 million property in a gated Waxhaw community. We called the number associated with the address and left a message, but did not get a reply.
Dr. Edosomwan has agreed to stop practicing at the request of the North Carolina Medical Board, but “vehemently denies all these charges.”
But the sexual assault and battery charges are not the first time that Dr. Edosomwan has been in trouble with the North Carolina Medical Board. And he’s been in trouble on the other side of the state line, in South Carolina, too.
Edomsomwan was investigated in 2012 after a mother questioned his diagnosis and treatment of her daughter. The board required him to submit for a professional assessment.
The South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners had issues with Edosomwan’s record keeping for his Chesterfield County practice, ordering him to bring it up to par.
The sexual assault allegations. The checkered history. Investigators are concerned there could be more victims. Β Β
“Biggest thing for us in this case is, although we’ve made an arrest in the two incidents that we know about, we’re not sure if there are any other incidents that he may have been involved in,” said Capt. Brisbon.
CMPD says the investigation is ongoing. They are asking anyone who may have been assaulted by Dr. Edosomwan to contact Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.Β
