YORK COUNTY, SC — The York County Sheriff is calling for tougher DUI laws in South Carolina. Β Sheriff Bruce Bryant is joining other sheriffs who are asking lawmakers to make it easier to prosecute drunk driving cases.

The Palmetto State is number one in traffic deaths caused by drunk drivers. Β The state average was 44 percent in 2013. Β The national average that year was 31 percent.

“We all want changes made that would restore confidence in our ability to keep the citizens of South Carolina safe,” said Sheriff Bryant.

There are currently bills in the state House and Senate that advocates say will prevent DUI cases from being thrown out due to small technical errors.
