UNDATED (AP) — Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry Tarkanian remains in critical condition in a Las Vegas hospital. A son-in-law, Dr. Zafi Diamant, says the 84-year-old is dealing with a respiratory ailment and infection for which he was taken by ambulance to a hospital Monday. Tarkanian led three schools to the NCAA tournament, including the 1990 Nevada Las Vegas team that won a national title.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Virginia’s Cavaliers, the No. 2 team in the AP men’s poll, is in Raleigh, North Carolina, tonight for a game with North Carolina State. The Cavs are out for their 22nd win of the season against just one loss while NC State is 14-10. Earlier in the season UVA beat the Wolfpack 61-51.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Kentucky, the top team in the AP men’s basketball poll, remained unbeaten last night with a hard-fought 71-69 win over LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Tigers had a chance to win the game but a 3-pointer at the buzzer missed the mark.

PHOENIX (AP) — NBA scoring leader James Harden continues to have the hot hand. Last night against the Suns he scored 20 of his 40 points in the fourth quarter in a 127-118 victory. Harden has had six games of 40-plus points this season to lead the league in that category.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Cornerback Richard Sherman of the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks says he will not have surgery on his injured left elbow and will let the ligament damage heal on its own. Sherman suffered the injury in the NFC championship game and played in the Super Bowl with a brace on the elbow. There was a fear that Sherman would need Tommy John surgery to repair the damage.
