Β CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Β Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged Joseph Gerell Banks, 23, with the murder of Shakeem Ray Dickens.Β
The incident occured around 11:16a.m. on November 22, 2014 in the 3900 block of Bristol Drive.Β
When officers arrived at the scene they found Dickens lying in the woods.
Medic personnel then arrived and pronounced him dead from a gunshot wound.Β
Police say that they made the arrest based on information gathered from the investigation.Β Β Detectives identified Banks as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

However, Banks was already in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office for unrelated charges and transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives

Β Officials say that upon completion of the interview, Β Banks was charged with murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and returned to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
