Police closed in on him Friday night after a two-week manhunt. Β Harland Donnell Melton faces kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct charges. Β He’s accused of kidnapping his 14-year-old stepdaughter on January 30. Β Investigators say the two camped out in the North Carolina mountains before he called his father and had him bring her home.
The Chesterfield County Sheriff tells WCCB Charlotte Melton used a stolen truck to drive to Oregon. Β It ran out of gas, and an officer spotted him pushing a bike with a rifle strapped to it. Β The officer arrested Melton after because he didn’t have an ID.
