CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s top cop received one of the state’s highest civilian honors Wednesday evening.
Chief Rodney Monroe received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine during a ceremony at the Foundation for the Carolinas. The honor is for people who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state.
“Service to others is by far the most rewarding opportunity that anyone can be given in life, in order to help others, to better others and, more importantly, to serve others,” said Chief Monroe.
A retired nurse and community leader nominated Monroe for the award. Other recipients include Billy Graham, Michael Jordan and Andy Griffith.
