NEW YORK (AP) — Sanford I. Weill is stepping down as chairman of Carnegie Hall’s board of trustees.

The New York City concert hall said Thursday that the board will now be headed by Ronald O. Perelman.

Weill, who’s being lauded for his leadership in Carnegie Hall’s transformation, has been named president of the board.

The Wall Street Journal (http://on.wsj.com/1BtSRNo xx) says that title was previously held only by Isaac Stern. The late violinist led the campaign to save Carnegie Hall from destruction.
