Canadiens deal Sekac to Anaheim for Smith-Pelly

MONTREAL (AP) β€” The Montreal Canadiens have traded rookie Jiri Sekac to the Anaheim Ducks for Devante Smith-Pelly a swap of wingers.

In acquiring Smith-Pelly on Tuesday, Montreal gets a player with five goals and 12 assists in 54 games this season. The 22-year-old wing has 14 goals and 26 assists in 129 regular-season games since joining Anaheim in 2011-12. He helped Canada win the bronze medal at the 2012 world junior championships.

Sekac, 22, signed as a free agent with Montreal on July 1. A quick, skilled right winger from the Czech Republic, he has seven goals and nine assists in 50 games this year. Sekac was impressive early in the season, but has only two assists in 21 games since Dec. 29.
