Β CHESTER COUNTY, SC — A push in Chester County to keep deputies safer on the job. Β Two women presented the Sheriff’s Foundation of Chester County with an $18,000 check Thursday. Β The money will help buy more than 20 bullet-proof vests.
The women raised the money on Facebook after hearing about all the gang violence in Chester and the murder of Chester City Councilman Odell Williams.
“I’m excited that the community came together and saw the need," said Chester resident Susan Wyatt Thomas. “They decided that these officers are worth it. Β Our police department, our sheriff’s department, they’re all worth it. Β And I’m really proud of Chester for coming together.”
Thursday’s donation will supply nearly half of Chester’s deputies with new bullet-proof vests. Β The Sheriff’s Foundation says it will continue to raise funds to buy more.
