Elderly Woman Assaulted and Carjacked

CHARLOTTE, NC — An elderly woman, assaulted and carjacked in a Charlotte grocery store parking lot.  Police arrested the suspect Tuesday eveing.

The attack happened around 11:30 Tuesday morning outside the Cotswold Harris Teeter.  The woman says Scottie Barringer pushed her to the ground, then took her money and car keys from her purse.  A man saw what was happening, tried to help, and got run over.  Shoppers are surprised by the thief’s boldness.

“I think we definitely need to be aware of our surroundings and be alert,” said Cotswold resident Mylene Castro Cross.  “It wouldn’t stop me from helping somebody else.”

Both victims have serious injuries.  Barringer is facing several felony charges.
