The “Greatest Show On Earth” will soon be without its elephants. Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey is phasing out elephants in its shows, and all of its elephants will retire by 2018. The circus will continue to feature other animal performers, including lions, tigers and bears. (Oh, my!) Horses, dogs and camels will still feature, too.
Ringling Brothers’ treatment of animals has come under scrutiny over the years. Animal rights groups, including the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have sued the circus over the issue. Ringling currently has 13 elephants traveling with its shows. And another 40 elephants are at its 200-acre center for elephant conservation in Florida.
So now that Ringling is phasing elephants out of the circus, should they remove all exotic animals from their shows? Rance hit the streets a little earlier to find out what you think…
