Β CHARLOTTE, NC — The group opposed to toll lanes on I-77 is not giving up its fight. Β We first reported Thursday night on WCCB News @ Ten that a superior court judge denied a preliminary injunction.

The group Widen I-77 tells WCCB Charlotte: “We are very optimistic that the court will find that the North Carolina Constitution does not permit our Department of Transportation to lease our roads to a Spanish corporation to make a profit from our commuters.”

Opponents of the toll lanes are not happy that a private company named Cintra would control the lanes and set toll rates for the next 50 years. Β NC DOT estimates tolls could be as high as $21 a day for commuters who drive the entire 27-mile stretch from Charlotte to Mooresville.

Widen I-77 says it looks forward to its challenge going to trial.
