Life in Prison for Suspect in Beating Death

CHARLOTTE, NC — A man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, with her six grandchildren in the house, will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Gary Cureton pleaded guilty Friday to avoid the death penalty. Β He beat Joan Lark to death with a bat inside her East Spencer home back in 2012. Β
Prosecutors say Cureton left Lark a number of threatening messages after they broke up.
