Extra Patrols for St. Patrick’s Weekend Festivities

CHARLOTTE, NC – CMPD officers are out on patrol by foot and by car over St. Patrick’s Day weekend. They’ve increased security, even bringing in extra off-duty officers to help out.

State Troopers are also conducting their Booze It and Lose It campaign this weekend. Last year alone, there were 340 alcohol-related deaths in North Carolina, many happening during the holidays.

Local police won’t tell us where they’re setting up checkpoints tonight, but drivers should expect more patrols than normal.

It’s all because of Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

In South End, crowds packed local bars like Sycamore Brewery for a craft beer crawl. “We love South End! We love Charlotte. And we had to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. So we’re all in,” says Elizabeth Neighborhood resident Lindsay Duncan.

South End Neighborhood Association President Eric Zaverl hopes activities like this will help local business. “Because they expose people who may only get out on St. Patty’s Day or whenever, and they find a new place that they will come back, time and time again,” Zaverl says.
