DAVIDSON, N.C. (WCCB Charlotte) – Davidson is going to the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team for the first time in school history. The Wildcats were awarded the 10-seed in the NCAA South Region after finishing the regular season as the Atlantic-10 regular season champs and finishing with a record of (24-7).

“I think we have had a magnificent season,” head basketball coach Bob McKillop said. “If we were to reflect back on the body of work that we have, there was a constant movement forward.”

The Wildcats will play the 7-seed, Iowa (21-11), out of the Big Ten Conference. The Hawkeyes size presents a challenge for Davidson.

“We imitate size in practice with imagination,” McKillop said. “We are a jab team. We need to constantly jab, jab jab. When we start trying to hit someone with a hay-maker we lose our balance. WIthout balance, this team will struggle.”

Davidson will be playing in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons, however, that doesn’t mean this team has much tournament experience. Aside from senior guard Tyler Kalinoski and one other, the team will be treading unfamiliar water.

Tip-off between Davidson and Iowa is Friday at 7:20 in Seattle, WA.
