CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Flames that burned a house in Northwest Charlotte were so intense they melted the siding of houses on either side.

There’s no word yet what sparked Thursday afternoon’s fire.  It destroyed the home on Trull Street near Hornet’s Nest Park.  A neighbor saw the smoke and ran over to help.  Other neighbors worried their homes would also burn.

“And when I got around here, I broke the front door to see if anybody was in there,” said neighbor Bob Quinn.  “A lot of smoke was coming out and nobody hollered out, so I just moved away from the house.”

“I looked, it was basically on my house, melting the side and some of the roof,” said neighbor Darius Johnson.

Nobody was home in the house that is destroyed.  The Red Cross is helping the family.
