His agent, Ben Dogra, says in an interview that he believes a return to Minnesota next season is not in the “best interest” of the running back. General manager Rick Spielman has told Dogra the team doesn’t plan to release Peterson, who turned 30 on Saturday.
UNDATED (AP) β The Minnesota Twins have worked out a new contract with second baseman Brian Dozier. The 27-year-old hit .242 with 23 home runs, 33 doubles, 71 runs batted in, 21 steals and 112 runs scored in 2014. The new four-year pact calls for $20 million and increases his salary this year from $590,000 to $2 million.
NEW YORK (AP) β The New York Rangers may be getting their goalie back soon. In fact Henrik Lundqvist says he hopes to return to the team this weekend. Lundqvist, who practiced with the team this morning, has been out of action since February when a neck injury forced him from the lineup.

DETROIT (AP) β A former University of Toledo basketball player has been sentenced to probation for helping gamblers a decade ago. The sentence for Sammy Villegas (Vi-YAY’-gaz) is the first in the point-shaving case which involved seven players, including three football players. All have pleaded guilty.
