Stepfather Pleads Guilty in Boy’s Death

NEWTON, NC — A guilty plea from a Newton man, charged in connection to his stepson’s drowning.

A judge sentenced Dustin Sanders to at least 19 months Tuesday for involuntary manslaughter.  The sentence will run concurrent to the 4 to 6 years he’s already serving for robbery.

Four-year-old Logan Putnam died in May.  He was underwater at Lookout Shoals Lake for nearly 10 minutes.  Investigators say Sanders and his wife, Kelli Ledford, were not watching the boy.  Ledford goes on trial in May.
