A proposed North Carolina bill would allow business owners to refuse serving customers based on their religious beliefs. Β The Religious Freedom Bill was proposed this week by two Representatives from Mecklenburg County, and opponents say it opens the door to discrimination and would take the state a step backward. Β Supporters say it will protect business owner’s from being forced to violate their faith.
The bill says state action, or laws, should not burden a person’s right to exercise religion. Β Indiana’s governor just signed a similar religious freedom bill into law Thursday. Β But not without pushback, even from the White House. Β If the bill were to pass here in North Carolina, businesses or organizations could turn people away in the of religious freedom.
So what do you think? Β Is the Religious Freedom Restoration Act a good idea, or a bad idea?
