Rockets look to maintain division lead

UNDATED (AP) β€” The battle for supremacy of the NBA’s Southwest Division continues tonight as the two teams vying for the top spot, Houston and Memphis, are both in action. The now first-place Rockets, who have won four straight and seven of 10, are visiting Atlantic Division champ Toronto, while the slumping Grizzlies, who have lost three in a row and five of 10, are home to Sacramento.

Two teams vying for the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference are squaring off tonight as Charlotte plays host to Boston. As a new day begins the Celtics are a half-game back of idle Brooklyn for the eighth spot while the Hornets are a full game back of the Nets.

The remaining games this evening feature the Southeast Division champion Atlanta Hawks, who have clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference, home to Milwaukee, the Utah Jazz at Minnesota, Portland home to Phoenix and the Lakers at Philadelphia in a game that features two teams with a combined 37 wins.

Good matchup in Montreal

The teams have met four times this season and Tampa Bay has come out on top in every game, outscoring the Canadiens 16-5. Lightning captain Steven Stamkos has had a field day this year against Montreal with five goals.

Defending league champion Los Angeles is fighting for a playoff berth and tonight the Kings are in Chicago. L.A. starts the night two points back of the eighth and final berth in the Western Conference.

The rest of the schedule shows Vancouver at St. Louis, the Stars home to Calgary, Edmonton’s Oilers in Denver against the Avalanche and Buffalo at Arizona.
