DURHAM, NC — A show of unity against hatred Wednesday night at duke University.  It comes after someone placed a noose on a tree outside the university’s student center.

300 people marched across campus Wednesday night, chanting, “We are not afraid, and we stand together.”  The noose, made out of yellow rope, was discovered overnight.  Police removed it right away.

The Vice President of Student Affairs, Larry Moneta, says if the goal was to create fear, it’s not working.  He also called the act cowardly and stupid.

“All I want to say to our black students is I love you all and black lives matter,” said Moneta.  “I want to say to our Muslim students that Muslim lives matter.  I want to say to our Christian students, to our Hindu students, to our Buddhist students, to our Atheist students: all lives matter.”

The university says whoever is responsible will be held accountable.
