RICHLAND, VA — Another big financial hit for Duke Energy over a massive coal ash spill last year. Β Virginia environmental officials say the energy company has agreed to a $2.5 million settlement with the state.
A majority of the money will fund state-wide environmental projects for communities affected by the spill. Β 39,000 tons of coal ash spilled into the Dan River last February, spreading the ash across North Carolina and Virginia.
