CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The couple accused of beating a three-year-old in a west Charlotte motel room have pleaded not guilty.
Cory McCree and the child’s mother, Shamika Reaves, entered not guilty pleas to the felony child abuse charges they face from their 2014 arrests.
Investigators say the toddler was beaten and sexually assaulted in a motel room on Lucky Penny Drive.
Both McCree and Reaves rejected plea offers during the hearing. Β McCree rejected an offer that would put him behind bars for 24 years. Β Now, if convicted, he faces life in prison.
The child is at a nursing facility receiving treatment from his injuries, according to family members.
