INDIANAPOLIS (AP) β Duke’s Blue Devils roared back from a second half deficit to beat Wisconsin 68-63 in the men’s NCAA championship game in Indianapolis last night. The championship is the fifth for Duke coach Mike Kryzewski (shuh-SHEF’-skee) who joins John Wooden as the only coaches to win at least five NCAA men’s basketball titles.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) β The Basketball Hall of Fame gained 11 new inductees yesterday. Among the group are Kentucky coach John Calipari, longtime NBA referee Dick Bavetta (buh-VEHT’-uh) and players Spencer Haywood, Lisa Leslie, Jo Jo White and Dikembe Mutombo (dih-KEHM’-bay moo-TAHM’-boh). The induction ceremony is in September in Springfield, Massachusetts.
NEW YORK (AP) β Alex Rodriguez was back in the lineup for the New York Yankees yesterday. The disgraced slugger, who sat out the entire 2014 season after being suspended by Major League Baseball, went 1-for-2 as the team’s designated hitter. The Yankees lost their season opener 6-1 to the Blue Jays.
WASHINGTON (AP) β Major League Baseball has announced that the 2018 All-Star game will be played at Nationals Park in Washington. The event will mark the fourth straight year that the Mid-Summer Classic has been played in a National League city. This year’s game is taking place in Cincinnati with the 2016 game in San Diego and Miami hosting in 2017.
NEW YORK (AP) β New York’s Rangers now top the NHL with 109 points. They beat the Blue Jackets last night 4-3 to move two points in front of Anaheim in the overall standings with three games to go in the season. The win was the fourth straight for the New Yorkers.
