ROCK HILL, SC — Two local firefighters injured battling a blaze in Rock Hill spoke to reporters Wednesday about their slow and steady recovery.

Rich Diamanti and Joseph Volk from the Newport Volunteer Fire Department both suffered broken legs on March 23 when the fire they were fighting caused a beam they couldn’t see to fall on top of a brick wall, pushing the wall down on top of them.

“I say wrong place, wrong time, other people say right place, right time, because it coulda been worse.  But, looking at Joe today and myself–pretty lucky that we beat the Red Devil,” said Diamanti.

Volk says he hopes to be walking normally in the next three months, and that he can’t wait to get back to fighting fires.
