NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — We now have new dash cam video from a different angle, showing the moments before a North Charleston police officer shot an unarmed man in the back five times.

We’ve slowed the video down so you can see what appears to be Officer Michael Slager and Walter Scott in a physical altercation.  The second officer who drove up keeps going, so the shooting is out of camera range.

A private wake was held Friday night for Scott.  As the family prepares for his funeral on Saturday, Officer Slager remains in isolation in the Charleston County Jail.

There are conflicting reports over whether Scott had a bench warrant out for his arrest during that traffic stop.  The Associated Press found Scott owed at least $7,500 in back child support, but an arrest warrant had not been issued.

Meantime, the officer’s mother, Karen Sharpe, is speaking out about the video of her son shooting Scott.

“I just, I just can’t watch it,” said Sharpe.  I can’t read the papers, I can’t.  And maybe some people, that’s, well, you are being in denial.  But I’m sorry, I just can’t.”

The North Charleston Police Department fired Slager after his arrest.  The officer could face life in prison without parole if he is convicted.
