Β A volunteer deputy for the Tulsa, Oklahoma Sheriff’s Office has turned himself in to face a charge of second degree manslaughter. Β 73-year-old Robert Bates says he meant to grab a Taser, rather than the gun he used to kill suspect Eric Harris.
Video of Bates shooting Harris in the back was released by the Sheriff’s Office this week. Β Meanwhile, Harris’ brother is calling for an independent investigation.
A large part of the debate has to do with the age of 73-year-old Bates, and what role that might have played when he grabbed his gun instead of his Taser. Β So do you think officers should be forced to retire after a certain age?
