CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have identified a driver involved in a fatal hit and run in south Charlotte.Β
Investigators say Jefferson James was driving a moped on South Boulevard Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a Nissan Murano driven by Elmer Galeas-Padilla at the intersection of New Bern Station Court. Β
Galeas-Padilla is accused of leaving the scene of the accident. Β Police are currently searching for Galeas-Padilla. Β James was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Investigators say the suspect was wearing an electronic monitor at the time of the accident. Β He has since been accused of cutting off the ankle monitor near I-485 and Arrowood Road.
Anyone with information on Galeas-Padilla’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
