CHARLOTTE, NC — CMS is hoping county and state leaders step up to help keep experienced teachers in town. Β Superintendent Ann Clark spoke about her $1.3 billion budget plan Wednesday at Pineville Elementary School.
The plan asks Mecklenburg County for $39.9 million more than this year. Β $16.2 million of that will fund raises for all employees. Β Clark says Charlotte has a lot to offer, but without fair compensation, experienced teachers will look elsewhere for work.
“But at the end of the day,” said Superintendent Clark, “it is what someone is going to be compensated that often makes that decision, once you factor in the quality of life that community offers. Β So we do need to be more competitive.”
Clark will be in Raleigh on Monday to discuss the budget plan with state lawmakers.
