NC DOT Proposes I-485 Express Lane

CHARLOTTE, NC — There are concerns that a plan to extend toll lanes on I-485 will bring traffic to a complete standstill. Β The NC DOT wants to add a lane in each direction from I-77 in south Charlotte all the way to Independence Boulevard in east Charlotte. Β 

Officials explained the plan to drivers in Pineville Wednesday. Β Many say the project will just tie up traffic even more.

“This traffic is now stopped, and to have taxpayers who paid for this road to sit in traffic every day with the cones up is really quite ridiculous,” said Pineville resident Shannon Martin.

Last week, a transportation committee voted to keep an unused lane between I-77 and Rea Road closed until it’s opened as a toll lane in 2019.
