CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Instead of sitting around at home, some CMS students used out-of-class time this week to explore the arts and literacy.Β
Β
LiterArtsy Camp is a partnership between Project L.I.F.T. and the Arts & Science Council. The kids, ages pre-K through 8th grade, have worked on writing, art work and performance art all week.Β
Β
They also got the chance to meet with art professionals. Thursday, a group of 7th graders heard from a comic book artist.Β Thomasboro Academy teacher Stacie Bunn says, “They were just impressed with the fact that he could make so much money and do something he loved. And I think a lot of times, they hear about careers that are basic, but they don’t see the broad picture of other things they can do.”
Β
Project Lift andΒ Arts and Science Council leaders say exposure to the arts and literacy helps students learn critical thinking skills as well as creative problem solving skills.
