CHARLOTTE, NC — DNA is credited with helping police make an arrest in a cold case murder that happened in Charlotte’s Elizabeth neighborhood nearly three decades ago. Β Jackie Sanders is charged with murder and armed robbery. Β He is currently locked up in a prison in the southeastern part of the state. Β

Sanders is accused of killing Crown Cab driver Dwight Corum in January of 1988. Β Corum’s sister, Gloria Corum, joined CMPD in announcing the arrest Thursday. Β She says she wasn’t sure police would ever find her brother’s killer.

“As long as he is… I’m just thankful they finally got him, and we’re able to have closure,” said Corum. Β “I can’t wish bad on anyone, you know, cause it’s just in God’s hands.”

The CMPD Cold Case Unit has reviewed 143 cases since it began in 2003. Β It has cleared 42 of them.
