CHARLOTTE, NC — A tree that crashed down on a house in east Charlotte is gone, but the damage is still there. The tree had root rot.
It narrowly missed a little boy asleep in the bedroom of his house on Dade Street Thursday morning. As the tree crushed the side of the house, the boy’s mattress tilted and he slid into the branches. The boy is okay.
WCCB Charlotte meteorologist Greg Armbrecht says recent rainfall could cause more trees to collapse. The trees are beautiful and they are notorious here in Charlotte. They make the neighborhoods look that much nicer, but the problem is if the trees aren’t healthy or are rotting on the inside, it can be a threat to you and your family.
One thing you can do is call out an arborist and they’ll come out and check the health of the tree. One local neighbor did that and said it was worth every penny, and she also feels much safer for her and her family.
“We were concerned in the winter and we had an arborist come and do some trimming of our trees, our mature trees,” said east Charlotte resident Ashley Hilliard. “So it gave us a little more security.”
This is the second tree with root rot to come crashing down on a home over the past 24 hours. Nobody was inside the home on Mountain Rock Road when that tree fell Wednesday.
