LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A woman died in an apartment fire in Lincoln County.
Investigators say Melinda Thomas, 65, was found unresponsive inside an apartment on Bailey Springs Drive.
Firefighters extinguished a small fire that was in the same room as Thomas. Officials say the fire is believed to have started on the bed where several cigarette butts were located.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
