WAXHAW, NC — Crews are working to restore water service to a neighborhood in Waxhaw.  Water started gushing Tuesday night from a broken main in the middle of the street at Providence and Cutters Spring Road.

The woman who first reported the problem, Colleen Lapenna, says what started as a small leak around 6pm quickly turned into water shooting out of the ground.

“It was pretty high.  I mean, it got to its worst, it was right here and kind of looked like a white water rafting… right?  You saw the video,” said Lapenna.

Crews tell us they still aren’t sure what caused the water main break.  Motorists are being asked to use caution when driving through the area.
