
CORNELIUS, NC– A Cornelius Elementary School crossing guard was struck by a vehicle Thursday.
Witnesses told police that the victim, Robert Jarosz, was standing stationary in the middle of the marked crosswalk wearing a bright green reflective jacket and holding a hand-held stop sign when a vehicle traveling east bound on Catawba Avenue entered the crosswalk striking Jarosz.
Jarosk was reportedly hit by the front bumper of the vehicle and transported to CMC-Main were he remains under observation.
The driver of the vehicle was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid colliding with pedestrian and for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
