Gastonia Officials Investigating After Woman struck and killed on I-85

GASTONIA, N.C.– The body of a woman was found on I-85 south at Cox Road Sunday morning.

Police say that they responded to the area for a pedstrian struck around 5:30a.m. Upon arrival, officials found 28-year-old Tamesha Beam of Gastonia, dead from traumatic injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Officials say that the victim’s sister reported she had seen Beam an hour before finding her on the side of the roadway, and that the two of them were getting a ride home from Charlotte when there was an argument in the vehicle.

Police say that the driver then pulled the vehicle over at the entrance ramp where everyone exited the vehicle. Beam’s sister continued to walk to her home near the location of the incident. The driver reported that she saw an unknown type vehicle come down the entrance ramp, heard a noise, but proceeded to go back to her vehicle, and leave the scene.

Approximately an hour later, the sister and driver talked on the phone and found that Beam was not with either one of them, so they both returned back to the scene and found Beam on the side of the roadway.

The GPD Traffic Enforcement Bureau is conducting the investigation, and is asking
that any witnesses who might have seen the collision or anyone with any information to
help solve this case to contact Officer J. Sarratt at (704) 842-5166. Or a message may be
