CHARLOTTE, NC — The suspected gang leader accused of masterminding the murders of a Lake Wylie couple from jail has entered a not guilty plea, and wants the case against him thrown out.

Jamell Cureton faced a federal judge in Uptown Charlotte Wednesday.  The hearing lasted about 40 seconds.

Cureton, whose gang names are reportedly “Murda Mel” and “Assassin” is accused of ordering the murders of Doug and Debbie London to keep Doug from testifying against him.

Police say Doug London shot Cureton during a robbery at the London family’s Mattress Warehouse store in Charlotte last May. Β Cureton’s attorney filed a motion to have the case dismissed. Β She says FBI agents violated her client’s right to a fair trial when they took letters she had written him and vice-versa during a raid of Cureton’s jail cell in January
