CHARLOTTE, NC –People in Charlotte are trying to help the victims of the deadly earthquake in Nepal. The Greater Charlotte Nepalese Association hosted a prayer vigil Wednesday night in east Charlotte. They used candles to spell out the words “Pray for Nepal”.
The death toll from Saturday’s 7.8 magnitude earthquake has topped 5,000. Saujanya Aryal has family in Nepal. He says people there are desperate for food.
“Since my parents actually traveled here three months ago, they now know how to store the food. In Nepal not all the households they store the food, they actually go buy groceries on a daily basis,” said Aryal.
A tiny miracle in all the devastation in Nepal: a baby boy found alive in the ruble of a destroyed building is in stable condition. Soldiers initially missed the baby, but later heard his faint cries. There’s no word on the baby’s parents.
