CHICAGO (AP) β€” The last two Heisman Trophy winners were the first two players taken in the NFL draft last night. Florida State quarterback Jameis (JAY’-mihs) Winston was chosen first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one slot before the Tennessee Titans snared Oregon signal-caller Marcus Mariota (mar-ee-OH’-tah). Florida linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. was taken third by Jacksonville, Oakland grabbed Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper at No. 4 and Iowa tackle Brandon Scherff was chosen fifth by Washington.

UNDATED (AP) β€” The Chicago Bulls have advanced to the NBA’s conference semifinals, and the Los Angeles Clippers have forced a Game 7 in their opening-round series with San Antonio. Mike Dunleavy scored 20 points and Pau Gasol (power gah-SAHL’) added 19 in the Bulls’ 120-66 laugher against the Bucks. Blake Griffin finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists to lead the Clippers to a 102-96 victory over the Spurs.

UNDATED (AP) β€” The Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks won their openers in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Joel Ward scored from the slot with 1.3 seconds left to give the Caps a 2-1 triumph over the New York Rangers. The Ducks crushed Calgary 6-1 as Corey Perry contributed two goals and two assists, while linemate Ryan Getzlaf (GETS’-laf) had a goal and three helpers.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” Masters champion Jordan Spieth (speeth) was among yesterday’s winners in the World Match Play Championship in San Francisco. Spieth, top-seeded Rory McIlroy, Gary Woodland and Bubba Watson are all 2-0 and face elimination matches. Rickie Fowler and John Senden have won their groups and next play what amounts to a practice round in the middle of a tournament.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) β€” Stanford has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby, moving Frammento into the 20-horse field for Saturday’s race. All horses outside of Stanford’s assigned No. 11 post will move inside one position; Frammento will break from the No. 20 spot. The lineup change means 5-2 favorite American Pharoah will break from the No. 17.
