CONCORD, NC — A Kannapolis firefighter is suspended with pay after police say he shot and killed a driver who followed him.

Concord Police say David Pittarelli was following Ryan Cochran and his girlfriend for several miles on Concord Salisbury Road, just before 10:00 Thursday night.  After pulling into a neighborhood, Cochran and Pittarelli got into a fight.  That’s when Pittarelli was shot.  So far, no charges have been filed.

“We’re still investigating,” said Concord Police Major Gary Hatley.  “Once we’re finished with our investigation, we’ll consult with the District Attorney.”

We stopped by Cochran’s house Friday night, but no one answered.  Police do not believe the two knew each other.  They’re still trying to figure out why Pittarelli was following Cochran.
