Statesville Man Arrested After Staging False Kidnapping

Β STATESVILLE, N.C.– A Β man was arrested after police say that he staged a false kidnapping.

Police say that at 7:00 on Saturday night, Β the Statesville Police Department received information that a wanted person, Acquilla Cain, 31, was at a home on 639 Harrison Street possibly armed and holding a female against her will inside.

When officers responded to the scene, they did not get an answer at the door. Due to the suspect possibly being armed, the Statesville Police Special Response Team was activated and also responded to the scene. Β Statesville Police Negotiators attempted to contact the occupants of the home but could not do so.

Officials say that after numerous attempts to make contact were unsuccessful, the SRT unit made entry into the home at about 10:25p.m. Β During a search, Cain and the female were found hiding in the attic. Β

No one was injured.

Cain was taken into custody without incident and the initial report that a possible kidnapping was taking place was eventually found not to be true.

Cain was arrested and charged on the outstanding warrants for Common Law Robbery and False Pretense. He is currently being held in the Iredell County Detention Center onΒ $10,000 bond. Β
