DENVER (AP) β The University of Denver and Colorado College will play an outdoor hockey game at Coors Field in February.
This will be the first time the Pioneers and Tigers have played outdoors in a rivalry that dates to the 1950s. The game will be held Feb. 20 and is being called the “Battle on Blake.” A week later, the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings meet in an outdoor game at Coors Field.
It’s the third straight season a team from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference has been involved in an outdoor game. The Miami RedHawks played at Chicago’s Soldier Field last season and the Western Michigan Broncos were in the 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, which was at Comerica Park in Detroit.
