(AP) β University of South Carolina women’s basketball players Tiffany Mitchell, Alaina Coates and A’ja Wilson are heading to U.S. tryout camps to earn spots on national teams competing this summer. Mitchell, two-time Southeastern Conference player of the year, and Coates were invited to try out for the American teams playing at the Pan American Games and the World University Games.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β NASCAR’s final appeals officer has upheld penalties levied against Richard Childress Racing for intentionally manipulating Ryan Newman’s tires in March. The decision of Final Appeals Officer Bryan Moss is final. He ruled yesterday there was “a preponderance of evidence” that RCR manipulated the tires.
CONCORD, N.C. (AP) β Chase Elliott is bringing NAPA’s sponsorship with him to the Sprint Cup Series. Hendrick Motorsports announced yesterday that NAPA has signed a three-year deal to be the majority sponsor for Elliott, who will replace four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon in the No. 24 Chevrolet next season.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β Walker Cup teammates Nathan Smith and Todd White won the inaugural U.S. Amateur Four-Ball yesterday, beating Sherrill Britt and Greg Earnhardt 7 and 5 in the championship match. The Four-Ball replaced the U.S. Amateur Public Links on the USGA calendar.
